Three cheers for VAR, say I. A point away at Arse from 2-0 down is a praiseworthy effort from the Eagles and they might have nicked it.

You probably will know better than me but is this Palace’s highest ever position in the Prem?

Their first-ever Premier League top-half finish saw them end the 2014-2015 season in 10th place.

As Gurney will remind us, I hope, Palace’s “ Team of the 80’s “ made a wonderful start in 79/80.

I need a good footy memory or two ATM, and our also rapidly developing team at that time welcomed them to the Dell about 10 games in, and gave them a 4-1 beating, which at that moment was a fantastic win for us, against a fine team on the crest of a wave.

Man Utd missing penalties again, this time two of them. The Utd players clearly need extra training at Carrington in the art of penalty taking. Having said all that, Norwich keeper Tim Krul was way off his line, narrowing the angle.

Crystal Palace captain Luka Milivojevic certainly seems to have mastered the skill. I rather like watching Palace and I hope I've not put the dampener on him.

Having said all that when I played football, even as a centre forward, I was never keen on the pressure of penalty and avoided taking them. Not as easy as it looks?

This is true. Ironical that in this highest position they scored 48 points, yet in 92-93 (admittedly a season when there were 2 more teams in the League) they were relegated with 49 points, narrowly outdone by Oldham who had the same points but a two-goal better goal difference. I well remember crying into my soup as I followed the gruesome progress on Ceefax. This remains the highest number of points with which any team has ever been relegated from the top league.

People sometimes don't believe me when I point out that Palace's highest top level league finish was 3rd in the Old Div One in 90-91. Even though the Heysel ban on English teams finished that year Palace did not make into the Uefa Cup. The one place allocated was taken by Liverpool who came second.

Palace are one of the classic yo-yo teams and the current Premier record (our seventh successive season) is very much an exception. Historically, Palace have spent most of their time in the lower reaches of English football.

A 49 point relegation was however when the Prem was a 22 clubber, with 12 more points to pay with!

After tonight’s result the Championship has six points separating 1st and 12th with almost a third of the season gone and no side consistent enough to pull away at this stage.

How on earth did we get a point at Wolves ?

                            Its pathetic.

In retrospect, the Wolves result must have been an outlier. We were feeble against Bompey and Chelsea too.

Something must be badly wrong. The squad is actually stronger ( or less bad) than last seasons, which I know isnt saying much.

PS According to this, Palace would be 14th without VAR.

                                Well that was quite something....!
Sort-Of-Reserve game maybe, but 5-5, through on pens...?!

Origi with yet another of his crucial late goals (93rd min!) and (very) young Curtis Jones up to hit the 5th pen...

All those young players will get a thrilling, experiential, instructive load out of this! (Well, the Liverpool ones at least...)
