    Yes

Between you, you have named all three - the conductor, the composer and the instrumentalist.

      Well done french frank.

New to me; and, as both you & vinteuil already knew, I've finally found out what his name means.

Vinteuil & french frank solved the trickier parts and deserve the credit.

          Priest
Vivaldi was known as the Red Priest.
          Richard Coles is a Priest.
Georges Prêtre's surname is Priest in French.

Thanks LMcD for an excellent puzzle.

But you solved the first bit as being Priest (and I'm too idle to take on Q - or R)
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Right, here goes nothing... and it might stretch the rules of spelling.

On the radio, how does part of a mediaeval manuscript, "Q", link to Janáček's mass.ive double protagonists & a.mass collect?

Given the comments about spelling and on the radio (= sounds like, so for example Kew?), do we assume that the peculiar 'Janáček's mass.ive double protagonists & a.mass collect' is deliberate?

                    Spot on.

The first answer does begin with a Q.

You're welcome! The former Communard's official website (still) describes him as the Reverend Richard Coles, so I assume that he's still a priest despite his recent retirement.

Hello all, and thanks to Pulcinella for reviving this game!

This Q is fiendish. The most I can come up with is "Quia" for the first word ("Quia ergo femina" is a work by Hildegard of Bingen from the medieval R467r manuscript). On the radio, "quia" might sound like "choir" - a double chorus in Janacek's Glagolitic Mass. As for the 3rd element, totally stumped...

Well done - Choir is right, but you might need be less definite.

I was a bit naughty with the other two and they're not musical, although the clues are.

Wish I'd thought of Quia. It's not a specific manuscript, more a construct.

Quire for the first element? A folded medieval MS.
