Yep! and a great song too. Thanks guys!

I notice Chris Wood sang a version of this one. Wouldn't mind hearing that.

Can't find that, but here's Ry Cooder, Ricky Skaggs and Sharon White doing a respectful interpretation.

Been listening to some 'Arkansas at 78 RPM: Corn Dodgers and Hoss Hair Pullers' and particularly loving Lonnie Glosson. Straight line to Woody and Bob to 'Alice's Restaurant' and beyond. Great stuff and beautiful photos.

I think 'I Listen to the Wind That Obliterates My Traces' is a wonderful title for a project. Here's a wee Youtube video on that Dust to Digital 'music in vernacular photographs' project compiled by Steve Roden.

Bit behind the times with this one, but there's a wonderful new Washington Phillips package on release by Dust-to-Digital

Thanks Global - that sounds like a beautifully clean version of 'Take your Burden'. So it's a Manzarene after all. Phillips is a completely unique performer.

And what, we wonder, is a manzarene? Two fretless zithers which may or may not be bound together, according to a recent r3 broadcate. Here's a fascinating and ultimately inconclusive page on this topic with a lot of research behind it, engrossing part is the discussion with his cousin.

Personally I'm glad it remains a mystery.

When the record notes said that it was a Dolceola I wondered how you pronounced it, Global. One of the big contentions I seem to recall was how this travelling preacher, Washington Phillips, managed to cart the instrument around with him. I also used to wonder if he crossed paths with Blind Willie Johnson because I think they were around the same places at around the same time in the late 20s.
When Ry did his cover of WP's magnificent 'Denomination Blues' on 'Into the Purple Valley', I think he might have tried using a dolceola...sounds nothing like Phillips, I'm sure you'll agree.

Good recall JC and I agree, well done to him for covering it back in 1972 - Rosetta Tharpe also did a version, but instead of that here she is doing a fantastic version of 'Didn't it rain' on Chorlton station in 1964 then 'Trouble in Mind'.
Man, she really works that platform.

Muddy was there too - not such a good copy and he really needs to watch walking the line! Crackin' hat mind you!
