    Thanks for this alert ams.

Then there's all the great jazz to go through produced by S African exiles, a sometimes subliminal, occasionally open part of the campaign that led to Mandela, that some of us have compiled over the years. Instead of what I'd planned I might make this my Christmas music fare for this year... some great hymn-type tunes in there!

That was a very thought provoking and well produced programme - as ever Robin Denselow's contribution was excellent & Lopa also struck the right note.
My daughter spoke to Nelson Mandela a couple of times when she worked for the World Service; she told me he was very easy to talk to

Towards the end of the Mandela tribute - nothing on the BBC Media Centre though, maybe I misheard & she was just playing a clip from an old program. Watch this space...

                I was right...

Mary Ann Kennedy introduces Andy Kershaw's hour-long tribute to Nelson Mandela.

His R1 docs in South Africa in '95 are still available on the R3 World Music pages - hard to imagine they'd make such a programme anywhere on BBC radio these days.

Really enjoyed Andy's doc about Nelson Mandela - a bit of a different take on things, typical of Kershaw. Also approaching from a slightly different perspective a great 50 minutes with Mark Coles for this week's effort from the Shed - very moving, I thought - he remembered Junior Murvin and Tabu Ley "Rochereau" as well who both passed on this last week. I like Mark Coles....have I said that before? Here's the link:
The music that Mandela liked. From the shed at the bottom of his garden, BBC broadcaster Mark Coles pays tribute this week to Nelson Mandela...playing some of the music that inspired the former ANC leader and President of South Africa.
