Sounds a bit third hand this one, Global, but Judy Collins made a short statement about Joni recently recovering, it would appear, from that aneurism.

...and she's talking about doing a 'Judy does Joni' record - it's through Judy that I first heard Joni on my auntie's 'Wildflowers' LP - wouldn't mind another 'Joni does Joni' record, mind you.

Not sure what I make of an Older People in Media Award - her achievements defy age surely!

When you say a 'Joni does Joni' record, do you mean brand new songs or another of her retakes on her own songs. Judy, in her mid-seventies is in really good voice and would do a really great Joni album.

I suppose I mean brand new, cloughie. I'd love to hear something new - she's left the music stage too soon - given what she said to us through our youth and middle years, there's that sense in me that she must have something still to say in our late middle years.

That's the problem with our generation, that never wanted to (or one day accept it would) grow old!

True, S_A. Waiting for Joni to give us permission. Might have to take it on by ourselves and give her the permission to grow old.

The second link especially is stunning.

I love Joni's older voice and accompanying orchestration every bit as much as the younger one.

                    Also love that painting.

Whatever my comments about Peggy earlier, all deserved, I am closer emotionally to Joni.

Am not sure that I wholly subscribe to your comment, S_A, and wondered if it was posted ironically? Think it can be more complex.

I'm not impressed by so-called "authoritative" adolescence but rather rue trends of diminishing in sophisticated adults the childlike.

The 'Both Sides Now' album from 2000 is stunning, the arrangements superb, at times almost Wagnerian' and her remakes of 'A case of you' and 'Both sides now' fit in perfectly with standards such as 'At Last' and 'You're my thrill'.

Hi cloughie, Have just checked my CD collection and have "Travelogue" and "Dreamland" from the 2000s as well as "Shine". All brilliant!

Joni Mitchell - The Night of the Iguana - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoc-WLD21PE

What I like about that track is that it has a WM feel, a 1970s feel, a 1980s feel, a 2000s feel, harks back to a film made in 1945 and it directly connects her with Dylan via the Augustine reference. The "Shine" album is not hugely orchestral and was principally new material. It is without question an unrecognised classic and was my album of its year.

Joni Mitchell - Shine from the CD Shine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uL02RTGMrQg

Incidentally, the word that really stands out in that song is "simplicity".

When you have an artist like Mitchell, you just know it is a reference to Copland's "Simple Gifts" and how it has been used for better and worse. It is a "positional legacy" album

Everything about it reaffirms she was - and is - in music's Big League!

This is a praise hymn in 4-part chorale style based on the American Traditional Shaker melody with the text an adaptation of Psalm 145. The Shaker Melody is ...

Hey I notice it's Neil's 70th today - happy birthday big man - long may you run.
Neil Young and friends at MTV Unplugged playing Long May You Run.

Yes - those two are spot on.

I think you have beat me to it on that Neil Young song and it wasn't long ago that I posted "Heart of Gold".

So "Harvest Moon" (1992) for a 70th Neil and also Rita and Eddie:

One of his best songs, and fairly 'recent', to boot....................
