There is a nice wee playlist on spotty, Global, from 7 years ago which could do with a few new additions, perhaps.

From simple and beautiful to an almost Wagnerian sound. Happy 77th Joni and thank you for the music.

        Wonderful, cloughie.
Here she is in those early years with the magnificent 'Tin Angel'.

Shades of Scarlett Conquering is one of my favourite songs by anyone.

Good choice, muzzer. There's really good versions of 'Coyote' out there; I love the one from 'Rolling Thunder' where Bob accompanies Joni on an early version of the song...stunning!
All rights to this footage belong to Netflix. Watch the amazing documentary "Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese" for more of this in...

By coincidence I was listening to that second number an hour ago, from a tape I recorded from a jazz programme in 2000. Claire Martin had chosen it as her Christmas stocking request.

Hejira is my favourite of her albums. I started listening to the Archives today to mark her birthday but have been happily distracted by the joyous news from the US.

That album just oozes class and perfection - the arrangements and playing ! The first from her debut album - somehow combines beautiful simplicity - deceptive because there are complexities both in the delivery and the lyrics.

Some excellent contributions which show her great range and openness to experimentation.
                    Thanks.

This is still a favourite Burundi drummers, dubbed Moog and some strong lyrics. Her 7th album.
By 1975 she’d come a long way already..

                    Verse 4

                    There's a poppy wreath on a soldier's tomb
There's a poppy snake in a dressing room
                    Poppy poison-poppy tourniquet
It slithers away on brass like mouthpiece spit

Next Thursday, Jun 17, on r4 at 11.30, a Laura Marling doc. called Blue: Pain and Pleasure to mark the 50th anniversary of its release.

                        50 years? <gulp>

Here's the link for this morning's wee show on music-lovin' Radio 4...or you can just listen in at 11.30.
Laura Marling celebrates the 50th anniversary of the release of Joni Mitchell's LP, Blue.

I could only find one rather fuzzy, buzzy clip of Joni singing the title track live on youtube - somehow adds even more to the wonder of the song.

Well worth a listen - had a bit of lump in my throat and a tear in my eye - sometimes I take 'Blue' for granted because it has been with me for so long, and in so many forms, but when I do take time to listen to it, it still catches me out, taking me places no other artwork does.

I have it recorded anonymously on one side of a D90 cassette which ended up in our local treasure trove covered market - with some Mercury Rev on the other side! Who would want to get rid of it thus? I can only think s/he must have obtained the CD.
