Simple scale-playing through Fender Rhodes with a bit of echo, on medium tempo minor modal blues with an backbeat, leaving aside the sub-dominant/dominant change, while comfort zone spliff-friendly, used up the limited possibilities pretty early on. British jazz people like Brian Auger got there ahead of Manzarek et al.

Added an understated sanity to the Doors sound, maybe an antidote to the Morrison excesses. Broken through to the other side for one last time. RIP Ray.

Nice one S_A - still, that opening riff of 'Light my Fire' is wonderfully enduring.
My 17 year old likes the Doors but when she heard the Animals she assumed the Doors, and I hadn't really noticed it before, so maybe Burdon and Price got there before them too.

...because for me, hearing 'Hello I love you' for the first time had me cast them as a Kinks' cover band.

Might also have something to do with the distinctive sound of the Vox Continental organ used by both Price and Manzarek.
