    Richie Havens

Very sad to hear of the death of the great Richie Havens. Some truly wonderful songs and great performances, though one I recall from early 70s on TV was a memorable version of 'Rocky Racoon' on BBC2 which I never ever saw again and often wish I had. Great interpreter of songs. Here's a version of 'Here Comes the Sun' from a couple of years back. RIP.

Indeed very sad - a songwriter but also a great interpreter of other's songs. Not so much cover versions as fresh interpretations 'Mixed Bag' has been one of my favourite albums for 45 years. Wasn't one of his achievements keeping Woodstock going for an hour or two until other acts arrived? RIP Richie.

What a special song this is, written by Jerry Merrick and performed by Richie Havens. The words are powerful and left to the listener's personal interpretation.…

Very sorry to read of this news early this morning. I had the pleasure of interviewing him and listening to him up close - and a more elegant and eloquent gentleman I have yet to meet.
