    Muddy heading for 100

It's always been one of my regrets that I missed seeing Muddy Waters in the early seventies in Glasgow's Maryland cos I had a previous arrangement with a girl and she wouldn't be persuaded that Muddy was the place to be. Here we are approaching the 100th anniversary of his birth in Jug's Corner Mississippi on 4th April 1913 and I haven't looked yet but Radio 3 will doubtless be clearing the schedules for a Mud fest. Meanwhile while we're waiting for news from R3 central, here he is from that concert in the old station in Manchester in '64 with that inimitable guitar style.

Happy birthday Muddy. Still no sign of anything on R3 - Paul Jones has a special next Monday evening so that'll have to do in the meantime.

I saw Muddy in Bristol c. 1965 on one of the early US Folk Blues tours...power and force, just stunning. The Freight Train coffee bar in Soho had some of the early Chess sides, Evans Suffle etc., proudly on their juke box in the early 60s. I remember being amazed finding that when Adam Faith was considered hip!
