    Document Records

Very interesting article yesterday about Jack White and Gary Atkinson and their plans to re-release the archive of the Borders-based Document Records.
Jack White learned his craft listening to the blues legends of the 20s and 30s on albums released by a tiny Scottish label. And now he's rereleasing Document Records' archive on vinyl

Maybe they'll be out on 78s Don.

I have pretty much all the Documents I want on CD (and LP before that), though with such a large catalogue there are quite a few which I haven't investigated.

It's a great idea, having all an artist's output in chronological order, but it does inevitably give an overlap with other, more selective or combined issues.

That's true Don, though if it attracts folk to have a look at their vaults that won't be a bad thing. I have to say that it made me have a look at a couple of Document samplers that are on Spotty. Some of the more regular performers - Bukka, Minnie, Muddy - but not the usual choices from them, and less known performers - Frank Hutchison, Brown Bombers of Swing
http://open.spotify.com/track/4aEKgMGxFq0mPP1iKGLvRD - making you want to know more. But I suppose that's what a sampler's trying to do.

Well, I've known Frank for ages, but not yet come across the Brown Bombers - I'll look, with some trepidation.

I enjoyed the trepidation involved in these records, Don.

As well as vinyl, you can also buy posters from Document.
                Some of which are great...

Oh and you can buy digital versions via the e-music site...

                Other record labels are available
