Frigg on World on 3 this Friday

A quick heads-up that this Friday's session on World on 3 is a stonker. Frigg from Finland in exceptionally fine form, and very good fun to have in the studio when we recorded them during Celtic Connections last month. Hope you enjoy!

Here's a bit more info on Frigg & Oilrig's show..

Speaking as one who enjoys faggots on a regular basis, not too sure what the fuss is about..?

Up here it's friggin'stonker you're best to steer clear of, John - I thought 'Stonker and Frigg' were a burlesque offshoot of Bellowhead.

Well - the Finns are quite well aware of the associations with their name, and I think are quite wickedly cheery at the idea! I believe you are allowed to pronounce it Frick ... ;-)

A refreshing change to hear Frigg's and MAK's happy insanity - good music does not have to be deadly serious!

It was a classic episode of Oilrig's World on 3 - overall upbeat, and included some of the classic artists of World Music at their best.
I was lukewarm about Frigg at first - but as the show progressed liked the variety of what they played and, of course, their dry humour.
How many Finnish string bands get played on the BBC ?
Ask Fiona - only she knows...but, from the sound of this group, there should be more.

More than I thought - heard some freak zone on 6 last night, purely by chance - bitta Zappa grabbed my attention, and FT got a mention on the Scandanavian front from Maconie...though Finland might not be Scandanavia. I thought Frigg were OK though I loved the slow wedding piece at the start of Act 2. Highlight of the night, as well as the very fine bit of Fela, was the London Klezmer Quartet - actually it was a great double with Fanfara Tirana & Transglobal Underground - beautiful.

There was a rather groovy Finnish Harpsichord based combo(I think) who appeared on In Tune a few years ago.

                          I wonder who they were?
