Another great - and underrated - singer heads off. Very sorry to see this. Terry's songs - and more importantly singing - were one of my first routes out into the world of the musical unknown.

Sad news. I only became aware of Terry Callier in the late 1980s or 1990s. He may have returned to performing after a lengthy break. Mainly he is associated in my mind with Robert Elms who was a huge fan and, in particular, the breezy "Ordinary Joe".
Not ever having asked myself questions about the date of that song, I realise that I have tended to place it in the wrong era. While there were no doubt remixes at that time, the original was recorded far earlier than I believed. As soon as I saw that Charles Stepney had been involved, I could connect it with his unique and often extraordinary production, albeit pared down.
Given considerable enthusiasm for Rotary Connection, in which Stepney effectively introduced us all to the great Minnie Riperton, following songs by the wondrous "Andrea Davis" and The Gems during the mid-1960s, I may now explore Terry's early output more.
