I presume Alan Hovaness is the composer b.1911, d.2000? In which case, "Tchk, tchk, Woody, sp., Hovhaness!"

And if that's the case isn't it very odd to put him alongside Cage as a revealer of "a whole forest and desert mountain full of these fine things that would be looked down on and looked over in bashful weakness by ninety nine out of a hundred second raters"? I don't think many on these boards would see Hovhaness's compositions as worthy of this praise

Maybe he was much a better pianist and/or chooser of repertoire by others??
