I am very sad to hear this Oilrig. In pre GG days on Radio Scotland she was someone I listened to in the time when there was only Jan and Andy playing any WM. I've still got a couple of old tapes from the Earthbeat programmes, and somewhere I have a letter from her with a playlist because I requested an Orchestra Baobab track and she wrote back to me. I used to think R Scotty must have been uncomfortable with her political input which often flagged up fundrasing music events raising money for struggles in Central America....at least that's my recall. I wondered what had happened to her in recent times and was pleased to see her name re-appear on the Beginner's Guide to Flamenco CD which came out earlier this year. She was a very fine broadcaster and played some right fine tunes.

i wasn't aware of jan either, but what a character! better to have discovered jan late than not at all.

the mind map, self portrait and accompanying details are really something, (and the obit too).

i looked up that track, and have just listened to it - so mellow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5jH8VIIEcI a good way to contemplate jan's many achievements. we could have done with her - too young to go but now jan's gone. i like her generation - so often they have a certain something, which jan's thoughtful descriptions, and sense of politics definitely personify.
