From an info point of view Episode 2 felt a bit unnecessary though R2 were suffering a post New Year hangover and got the post Radcliffe shows mixed up and Nina didn't show until 11pm (reputation?), so maybe it was a bit late for me. There was some great music from Nina needless to say, but generally it was less satisfying than Ep 1.

Ok ... we shall be moved ?

We recorded ' The Legend ' off Arte TV some time ago. I think much of it is out there on the tube in sections.
        Raw stuff.
Clip of Nina Simone playing in a concert circa 1960-70...from a French documentary about her.

Both brilliant clips. I have seen the first one before. Must have been on the BBC. "Incomparable" - rarely has a word been chosen so accurately, stirring, exceptional - but you know what strikes me on seeing those tonight and thinking of what we are generally offered now? She was so.........human. Above all else, she touches emotionally because she was real.

Looks like a good buy, if you have not already got it.

PatrickOD - Thanks for the suggestion. That must be one of the best (of many). Finally managed this morning to listen to part 2 of the documentary by Nina's daughter. I thought it was as interesting as the first one if a little sad.

One thing that still fascinates me is the choice of songs throughout her career. How much was her and how much the advice she was given? I can hardly think of a better example of songs not only complementing so consistently a singer, and vice versa, but being of such high quality, so diverse, so connected to roots and yet so representative of the times, so interconnected with the singer's outlook and personality, and so long-lasting. Quite a list!
