I remember buying it on a cold autumn afternoon when I was a student and the same day Suzanne Vega's first album - they were played a great deal . Haven't listened to either for over 20 years I reckon may dig them out tomorrow .

Interesting that Simon says that the song Graceland is his favourite of all his songs (well back then anyway) - he would only change one line in it. For me in this riveting programme - well I was riveted - the most fascinating thing was Simon talking about the lyrics in 'Graceland' and 'You can call me Al'. I think I'll listen to this wonderful record with a new set of ears in future.

Thank you for highlighting this programme JC. The range of responses on this thread support the significance and enjoyment of this album. It was first broadcast in late July 1997 which I reckon is just one and a half months before the release of "Buena Vista Social Club". Aug 1986....Sep 1997.....I wonder which WM CD of Oct 2008 had a similar impact?

                  Also:

Has the CD ever been released with an "Under African Skies" featuring Miriam Makeba?

I don't know the answer - although I should do - and it's my favourite version of my favourite "Graceland" track!

Watched it last night .... superb, but then I would say that ..... Among many points of interest was the use of music played backwards so as to delight forumites .......
