    New releases at 78rpm

Yes, courtesy of the 'other' WM station, r4, news in of C W Stoneking, Pokey La Farge & Blind Boy Paxton releases on 78rpm

    More info here...

Cynical marketing ploy or genuine homage? I'll plump for the latter in this particular case.
All those boys were made to be played at that particular speed on that particular media...

    Terrific news.

Phonographs and phonograph parts for sale online and at our shop. Conveniently located near Davenport, Iowa, minutes from the Mississippi River.

According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

Thanks for the reminder Calum - I love the Blind Willie Dunn's Gin Bottle Four with Lonnie Johnson and Eddie Lang.

Ahem, I have: a Macdonald MP60 deck with 78 speed and a Shure M32-3 with 78-profile stylus! Just basic LP phono-equalisation in the amplifier but the music comes through...

And isn't there a company still reissuing rare (going on legendary/ near-mythical) operatic 78s in high-price albums for subscribers?
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Don't be silly S-A. I have two new turntables, a Stanton and a Numark, 3-speed both.

Even Argos were selling USB 78rpm decks recently.

Not sure. It seems like a bit of a gimmick and the records will presumably require a second stylus. There is also a question about material and authenticity. Vinyl for quality but Pokey looks like a shellac era man to me.

                              You're probably right.
Flushed a few responses out though...and I got to post one of the old 78 record sleeve pics.

And Mark Coles (ex World Service now in The Shed) got to do another piece on the r4 Today programme...which subsequently meant we had the wondrous experience of John Harumphrys saying '...and that was Pokey La Farge on 78 there..'
