seems almost superfluous to add Jazz Nil ....

the R3 Newsletter is sick sick sick ...
sick with its sycophantic admiration for a composer
sick with its desperation for a British Genius that it can flaunt
sick with its propaganda machine, repeating the claims again and again until they are orthodoxy

a long period of modest restraint on the part of R£ would be most welcome
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

...at least it's not 670 pages I assume...and so far no mention of World Music in there either from wee Eck...did Dr Lucy get a mention from Rojer the Bodger by any chance?

Me too. Or did I decide it's now so boring that I unsubscribed?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

            This week in 2001...

The photos shows South African musician Eugene Skeef with Pastor Joseph Shabalala from Ladysmith Black Mambazo who featured in the first of four programmes from South Africa, broadcast on Sunday 18th February 2001 on BBC Radio 3.
it's all comparative obv. but this is the most mentions of WM for many months.
We'll gloss over the fact that two of the mentions are of, er, exactly the same programme, which is itself not 'new' merely stealing a bit of the only existing dedicated show...and that the Arts, Jazz & World Collection bit doesn't actually mention any WM programmes (admittedly they are hard to find). Still always good to see the owner of that wonderful voice, Joseph Shabalala.

                Whoa, check this out:
World on 3 (Friday 15 April at 11pm) celebrates the famous collaborations between Menuhin and sitar guru Ravi Shankar; and Sunday Feature (Sunday 17 April at 645pm) will explore the life and career of this remarkable prodigy through the many interviews he gave, held in the BBC archives.

I noticed that Global, and assume that on the 'Sean Nos, Iarla, Gloaming' string you mentioned that Mary Ann was having a Sean Nos celebration on Friday too. For some reason I'm still having only very intermittent contact to that thread...and only that thread, as far as I can see. Strange!
