I enjoyed Friday night's '70 years of World Music that was this edition of Wo3' and there's a few folk I'll investigate further - like Ross Daly for example and the Korean group.(better check up on their name). I suppose that it's impossible to have everything in there - there was no Ali Farka Toure in there for example, and no desert blues either. Kershaw chose a clip from his Sardinian adventure which was a delight, and Cerys some Welsh Harp. However, apart from Miriam with Harry Belafonte there was no representation of South Africa in there - for me the music of the townships seems so pivotal in the history of South Africa and in the development of World Music it seemed strange that there was virtually nothing...no Zimbabwe either. Still,as Simon Broughton said, it was good to go reinvestigate a few old classics acts for an evening. I imagine if they had two other guests the emphasis would have been totally different, but nice to hear more of Muzsikás.

The episode on Friday wasn't too bad.
A session by Sam Carter and Maz O'Connor with reference to rights since the Magna Carta, a few unusual tracks including one by the Scottish/Finnish Voxtra, the first track released by the Hot 8 Brass Band ahead of their album and songs by veterans Calypso Rose and Elza Soares, the latter memorable if also a bit scary. I especially liked "Tonokenu" by Bonga.

Your review makes me want to go back and have another go. Of course beer may have played a part...that's me...not sure what Lopa's excuse was.
There was a decent bit of electronica from way back (can't remember which one) and Ali Farka Toure. Overall, it's probably worthwhile choosing bits of the programme.

Best Wo3 by Lopa for a long time last night, great session by Iranian tambour player Arash Moradi with whom she seemed to get on well with, a welcome Caetano Veloso track, and I loved the track Barou Drame by Diagatoula; as it's the season of goodwill, I'll even overlook the mandatory SamLee which was in fact nicely neutralised by the superb version of Masters Of War.
worth a listen.

Have, er, a drink each time, er, she says that, er, word.
Current record 17.
Can't remember anything after, er, that.
PS Don't the BBC have people who can help with this affliction?

Here's Derek Gripper doing a Tedtalk and saying a few things that he said on Wo3 but without Lopa's interruptions and a couple of demonstrations. It's from a couple of years back. Most enjoyable, I thought.
