Where's the passion, the enjoyment, the delight in discovering, sharing, extending the listeners reach that we hear from other presenters? Missing.
As a result what is normally a pretty good show (the Froots one) turned in a drear occasion.
In case you've missed it, Stick in the Wheel won.
She didn't play this track, but as it is a personal favourite on a topic i find perennially interesting it's the one I like to play

Lopa Kothari introduces a special session from BBC Introducing group Amaraterra.

Track 3 of the show had a spot of jockrock, which was one of the only other points of note.

Could we perhaps be getting a visit from Oilrig on Friday?

    Oh yes.

I agree with what one contributor says about their attitude which I have witnessed live in rural pubs from groups of their ilk. You might think life is all about drinking lager, wearing Rolex watches and debating whether Martinez was wise to vogue to Jason Durulo. We are going to bring you down to earth and sing about commons in an uncompromising fashion.

    I also enjoyed Amaraterra.

A listen to the latest Lopa 19/2/2016. I liked the idea of Otava Yo Live more than the reality - they were protesting against the 'plastic folk' (my phrase) imposed on them by the government by producing all sorts of worthy and authentic noises.
As far as I can tell, their legacy track stretched on for nearly 30 mins.
My life is too short for such a thing so I quickly skipped over (thank you Listen Again).
All in all, apart from an appreciative nod to Rokia Traoré, who is popping up all over the place, and Bela Fleck + buddy who is always welcome, this was a largely forgettable episode. 2 versions of John Henry? gaah.

Meanwhile, in a charmingly amateurish, shambolic, slightly pissed off but v. enthusiastic and knowledgable way, over on Resonance...
Classic Congolese dance music of the two Congos with Vincent and Koffi. Visit http://www.nostalgieyamboka.net for more information.

      Learn Lopa, Learn.

I like Abdullah Ibrahim - saw him once in Dundee many years back and very excellent he was - but I didn't get too far with Lopa's show last Friday. Week after week we get pretty pointless interviews that tell us nothing. World on 3 really needs a big reboot. There are other energetic presenters out there. Lucy would do for starters, or Colesy. Hope MAK's back again soon; but next week we have NitinandLopa which sounds like a local WRI talk, but is probably going to be much much worse. Come on Wo3, shake things up a bit!

....and if the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino track is anything to go by they could be a right treat when they're in for a sesh with Lopa in a couple of weeks.
REv Peyton's big damn band are touring the Uk and Ireland this summer, including some gigs at something called Grillfest.......

Anyway, hoping to catch them, but it's looking a bit tricky on the dates.

Thanks ts. I wouldn't be running to listen to Friday's Wo3. In fact I was bored until Skip James arrived though the raga that followed it by guests Hussain and Kumar was very enjoyable,(unlike the dull piece with the orchestra which had preceded it), but really Lopa needs a bit help picking her records in my opinion.

I worry that you're implying that we might be getting too fuddy-duddy for Radio 3.
I liked this guy that Max the interloper played a couple of weeks back. I hadn't heard them before and felt I should have.

DJ Rita's getting an outing with Lopa on this coming Friday's Wo3. As part of 70 years of the Third programme we're getting milestones of world music over the last seventy years. Any contributions? Ali Farka will have to be in there...here he is from Malian TV in the 80s...sound's not great, but the great man and his band are.

DJ Rita rather than DJ Ritu who is probably mainly on SOAS and Resonance FM now - and BBC 1 Extra's DJ Edu who I guess we should be trying to check out, not that the station is generally on the R3 Forum radar. The only thing that has stopped me is thinking the show will be a Gilles mark two, not that it would be a terrible thing. Just not my preference.

Why the last 70 years? It is quite a big ask to pick out something momentous because that must surely be from the period 1946-1956 to make other people gasp. At least, among those of us who feel that we know something. But I did enjoy the clip you have provided and I hadn't seen it before so maybe I'm just making things much too complicated again.

                                Yep, DJ Rita Ray
As part of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of The Third Programme, Lopa Kothari introduces a wide variety of World Music milestones selected from the last seven decades, including some rarely heard archive material, and discusses it with guests Simon Broughton, from Songlines magazine, and DJ Rita Ray.
I mean, what on earth possesses parents to give the child a first name of DJ ?
No wonder we get a bit confused. I presume it is chosen in honour of the inventor of interrupting the playing of vinyl with a friendly chat, the incomparable David Jacob
