For once I throughly enjoyed Lopa's interview and felt it really added to the music - great stories
example paraphrase: 'we spotted Bunny Lee in the supermarket car park 'cos he was wearing a sailor's hat, and he suggested Cornell straight away -the very man we were looking for
Cornell Campbell & Robin Hopcraft both excellent interviewees (the whole Bing Crosby thing was excellent), and what sweet sweet reggae music they played, he really has a lovely voice - cheery stuff for the dark days of Jan, and, of course typical of BBC Radio 3 fare (ahem).

See Aunty, there's this thing, YouTube, all you need is a little smartphone & a bit of broadband to upload, even a low-res vid would have been good. Expect they're hung up on digital rights et al.

Couple of gripes (Los Lobos, Laura Veirs) but overall a thumbs up.

I agree Global. Very lovely guests this week accompanying a late wet night - my gripes were Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants and Los Lobos - I can never gripe about Laura!

Thanks Hon G - I'm not sure what they have in mind here - I suppose we just have to wait and see - too bad Radio Scotland abandoned its commitment to World Music some time back - the job would have been nice and easy then - I'm trying not to be sceptical so I'll just keep ma geggie shut!

here's an approved Rajar Wright quote from that press release
"Radio 3 is proud of its commitment to music from across the globe and it’s an appropriate year to be exploring the musical story of the Commonwealth. We hope our millions of listeners will enjoy joining Radio 3 on this wide-reaching journey of traditional cultures and music from across the world."

Lopa had 'Bulgarian Voices Angelite' in last night - well, that is, the recording was from way back in November from what I gathered - not sure why they waited so long to broadcast, but it was a right treat. The recording is available here if you don't want to listen to the whole show.

hey, get up and dance to your radio people

The Angelites were who I was interested in listening to - so they were part of Marcel Cellier's Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares project. Good interview too.
Here's is an informative article about them

Me and Mrs C were heading out of Dunkeld a bit after 11 last night and though it's a bit of a reception blackspot, though we had been to a fine wedding reception, I turned on Wo3. Brilliant! Mose Fanfan was the guest and what a mighty fine guest he was - great band...all that terrific Congolese soukous...fabulous guitar, soft singing, and a gentle rhythm to match the swinging road that runs along the 5 lochs heading home. Lopa was surprised to find that although Mose played in OK Jazz he had been living in London for thirty years...also, I think he said that the rest of the band were all living in Britain. Wherever they're playing I fancy a night out on that. And what a great guitar performance.

However, some of the records that Lopa played were unlistenable. Mrs C said, 'Do you listen in to this on the off-chance that you hear something good?' I felt she had something there. There were a couple of tracks in the time I was listening which would have sat safely at home on a Sunday night on the old Light Programme. Does she actually listen to these tracks before she plays them? Last week MAK had an unispiring, for me, guest but wonderful records...the opposite this week with Lopa!

Anyway, on the upside I'm going to get some Congolese stuff out today and ease into Saturday. Kekele, I reckon!!!

Absolutely no complaint about that one Calum...wish more of the tunes had been up to that calibre!

It was better when they had more than 2 presenters.
Maybe a regular guest spot? (this is Not a wearisome plea for the return of AK)
