But stick around for the play-out piece from Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita - harp and kora - I want to hear more.
Lopa Kothari presents new music and a session with British bluegrass band the Wagon Tales.

I feel a bit grumpy to say that I could have done without the 'Wagon Tales'; fine musicians I'm sure but for me they didn't fit too well in the mix.
not sure that's grumpiness, more a fine discerning critical appreciation..or is that just because I agree??

Lopa can also be heard reading news bulletins from time to time on r3.

And I'm pretty sure I spotted that Rajar Wright emptying the bins the other day...

Lopa Kothari with a profile of composer AR Rahman and highlights from the Darbar Festival.

        programme may be summarised thus:

if you ain't a fan of A. R. Rahman proceed immediately to the last two tracks.

Thanks for the advice, Global...from the look of the playlist I think I'll do just that!

Reckon we'll be hearing a fair old bit of Juana Molina over the next few weeks as she is touring UK.
Actually, it's a joke to call it a tour - 2 gigs, one in London, one in Manch (in the rain no doubt).
I first heard of her in 2003 (ish) courtesy of Charlie G. who played this haunting track on whatever Wo3 was called then (Wo3?)
Y se canto de este modo por encontralo oportuno no es para mal de ninguno sino para bien de todos

I like the idea of her as much as the reality...

And so on to Lopa's Wo3. BBC Playlister score? 12/34. I suspect this is going to be the way it goes - no merit in obscurity but even the Long Tail of the internet doesn't go that far. At least they've added Wo3 to the Playlister posse.

Nynke - just goes to show that you shouldn't put music in a bag...I would never have guess that carried the deadly fado tag. Good guest.

And did Lopa play the best track off Red Hot + Fela ? there's only 1 way to find out...
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

[caution - contains language which some viewers may find objectionable]
[and for those with a low boredom threshold for that sort of thing, music becomes worth your attention at about 14m 50s in]

            nothing particularly edgy though...

This new Playlister thing. I presume somebody gains from it ?
                    Any clues ?

Well the Beeb are very strident about the fact that they receive no money from it.
It helps drive more traffic to YouTube/Spot/Deezer so that's why they iike it.

The BBC's new Playlister feature is a boon for music fans, but might be less popular with some musicians, writes Miranda Sawyer

So, Paul it is just another example of global philanthropy from our great national broadcasting company.

Davie Byrne is not one of the convinced.
The boom in digital streaming may generate profits for record labels and free content for consumers, but it spells disaster for today's artists, says David Byrne

I could have done without the talking heads in the middle - their chat was a road to nowhere...unlike the performers - I expected good things from McAnuff & Fixi, and from Finch & Keita and I was well impressed. Ganesh & Kumaresh were stunning, but the surprise of the evening were Ghazalow - great sound, terrific combination of the Welsh and the Indian. Loved it - great show.
