    Lopa's Wo3

There's some posts already about this somewhere I'm thinking, but I can't find them due to general Xmas blurriness.

anyway this was a fine, cool programme from LK - I don't think I've used the phrase curate's egg yet on these MB's..but you know sometimes her programme can be, but this one hit the mark

Of course I was deeply impressed by Mulatu Astatqé and the Heliocentrics, a seminal figure on the Ethopian music scene - bet they're great live. :cool2:

Oh yes, and a big thanks to the sound engineers Martin Appleby & Phil Hutchinson who make the difference between success and failure. Unsung heroes once again.

Yes, thank you Global. My mind boggles every time I see links like the ones in red letters. It is all a mystery to me. I do have some further questions on which you might be able to advise me. They are on the "how to" thread and some of them regrettably are on repeat play.

I found the discussion about Mulatu Astatqé, Hugh Masakela and Fela Kuti interesting. Keep wondering at what point precisely such artists were given airtime here and particularly in the States and how they were presented.

For all of the changes in the sixties, I find it surprising that they made their way onto what surely was in many ways very conservative TV (Reference - Motown stars early on not being featured).

We did have lists on the BBC forum as well, didn't we, or have I got this wrong?

As JC & McG would never say ' you cannae beat a bit o' boggling'/ I'll take a look.

Doesn't this take us back to the Franky Z clip? some cigar-chomping exec say 'Yeah, why not, let's give those guys a go'? I like to think so. Besides they did have a ready made market for some of them outside of their native country.

Occasionally our host used to post them....personally I like to click through but each to his own.

Anyway LK is back, fresh from her big Brazil break in December and I'm pleased to say seems to have picked up
an Adoniran Barbosa cd while she was out there.

And as a non-betting man, I'll wager that John Corrigan will warm to this lot :

I shall be listening Paul, and send any winnings your way - by the way that fine essay by Chris Wood is repeated this evening just before Wo3.
Singer Chris Wood on how the sea, the sky and the marshes in Faversham have affected him.

And Adoniran Barbosa, as Global may recall, goes back to those ancient Mixwit tape days.

She could tip "January" by Pilot and it would sound good.........Verdict - I was rather taken by Nelson Cavaquinho. Very moving I thought. The Gogols - waits to be howled down by some, probably not on this site - are very good fun. Liked Mercedes, the Mek Yek one, Yaaba Funk, and nice to hear the Penguin Cafe in a different form, post-harmonium. Liked most of the programme actually. Appreciated Lopa's reference to "airiness"." More air and earth than fire and water". She likes.

Nice but they are a bit intelligent. They keep the writing above their heads.

                              Same here.
I wonder if John has made it to Through The Night ( which he'll probably enjoy the start of ! )
