...........not at all. Isn't Hawaii just great at this time of year? Dane and Victoria live too. I really couldn't have wished for more.

Just for a moment, I thought I had wandered in to a Rezillos Thread, what with space cartoons and Scottishness generally.

      Shame.
(hope the hangover is not too bad Lat).

I'll send you the Observers book of Craythurs HF - so you can spot the difference between a Cribeen & A Skink. All Gaelic though you're right.

        Live from Lat's pardee...

I was looking forward to more Italians last night - there seems to be lots of good things coming from that direction - but Nidi d'Arac didn't stop me in my tracks. A few others did - more from that terrific sounding CD by Gétatchèw Mèkurya with the Dutchies; Anda Union - very excellent indeed, I thought; good to hear 'King of Spain' again among others - plenty to enjoy in a shortened show.

In which Lopa plays the blues.
And a great Seckou Keita session (his sister didn't get enough recognition for her excellent performance though).
How could she play that Buffalo Gals track without mentioning the original from the Dezurik sisters?

I saw that Ian Segal in the back room of a small pub about 9 years ago -same volume & intensity. Excellent.

One of the best of her shows for ages.

Yes indeed - that Binta Suso has a great voice - really enjoyable session.
Also that Carlos Nunez and the Tom Paley and the Monoswezi; highlight for me was the Bassekou and Ngoni with Taj - really crackin' bit of blues.

                  Fri 15th Feb

In which Lopa gets caught out by pre-recording & predicting the activities of meteorites.
Be brave, Ms Lopa, be brave - go live; you can still pre-record your sessions and interview.

She redeems herself slightly by playing Fela Kuti & featuring some handy Inner Mongolians - but there were some terrible tracks in there too.

She did the same thing last week - started the show fine, got the guests on and very good they were ( like last week); that second track in memory of the son of their manager was very moving, I thought. Then, like last week, she sticks something virtually unlistenable on - Holger and the Rambling Boys were horrible to my ears - anyway, always love Hank Thompson cos he sings one of my all time fave drinking country songs with the classic, for me, line 'I been spendin' all day long takin' in the town. I done spent my whole paycheck just a honkytonkin' roun'. Pure poetry!

                      Lopa live!

Started with Rokia Traore then Moussu T & his players...then I had to do something else , but will return - Tamikrest always worth a listen, although for some reason their name sounds like the name of a toothpaste a 50's Hollywood star may use.

                      Things look brighter with Tamikrest!

One of those weeks when you struggle getting round to listening, but glad I got round to it. I really enjoyed the South Indian brothers Ganesh and Kumaresh - something extremely uplifting about that Carnatic violin when I hear it - and they sounded like a right pair of jokers and some fine throat clearing in the process. Also enjoyed KOBO TOWN - wouldn't mind hearing a bit more of them...and Lojo deserved their award - glad it wasn't Bellowhead.

Nice to hear that Loudon's popping in for a visit in a couple of weeks - wonder if he'll have Dame Edna in tow!

What a brilliant studio version of the great 'Schooldays' by Loudon in last night's show - for the second time in a couple of days I found myself longing for AK in the studio - Lopa was well out of her comfort zone (she was back in autocue mode unfortunately yesterday evening). Still some fine tunes in there, but Loudon remains great value.

                              Blame it on the boogie!

As a regular, biased critic of Ms K it's a pleasure to report that her latest show was against the trend and one of her best
Lopa Kothari introduces a session from Sam Amidon, plus new music from around the world.

Now Mr Beth Orton (aka Sam Amidon) isn't going to be a regular on my turntable but Mad Manoush, the Kate McGarrigle tribute album & a timely reminder about the Garifuna Collective all will be, and it's always good to hear what Gogol Bordello are up to.
Overall more good stuff than duff stuff.

Maybe goin' on her hols does Lopa the world of good but there were some very fine tunes in there from Friday. Plenty Garifuna; Mulatu in mighty fine form from his latest with Fatoumata Diawara providing some vocals; Titina who sounded very Cesaria and in a very very good way; a fine bit of Malagasy; and the Freedom Singers in tribute to MLK. But stick around for the play-out piece from Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita - harp and kora - I want to hear more.
Lopa Kothari presents new music and a session with British bluegrass band the Wagon Tales.

I feel a bit grumpy to say that I could have done without the 'Wagon Tales'; fine musicians I'm sure but for me they didn't fit too well in the mix.
