This one and those like it:

Not so keen on his geometric shapes - not very vibrant and a bit "classroom" - but this is very good:

For subtelty, Bonnard. For exuberance, Kandinsky. And almost anything with swirl.

      Just found this.
Warning: contains moving geometric shapes ( under a coat )
Part 3 of an arts documentary. At 96, Bob Crossley must be the oldest remaining abstract artist of note, living and working in St Ives.Geoffrey Robinson

Thanks Paul. I like the ochres.

He seemed very grounded. "Colour has its own energy" etc. While there is a temptation to want to ask someone like him at 96 "is this a boat?" - ie to obtain a detailed understanding - I don't think that an approach to detail in this sphere provides any greater appreciation. A good abstract painting speaks for itself. That is not to say it doesn't ask questions but those questions don't tend to be fully formed into words, at least in my mind. They reside in the area of the abstraction. He spoke of using colours that were harmonious but a part of the joy is that it is a very "un-obvious" harmony. They weren't lifted from a colour coordination chart.

So there is a question there to ask. Why harmony along those lines? But I wouldn't want to ask it and he would not have been able to have answered it. The painting does. As for that relationship with the environment, one sees it semi-directly and yet at the same time in a sense that is conceptually different. I am minded of the notion of some of Kandinsky's work as visual jazz. I feel that I get that completely. Allegedly he was a synesthete. I'm not but feel close enough to it for natural emotional appreciation.

My only doubt is whether Crossley could be said to have had a trademark style. He appears to have done a lot of things but then many of them did and do. I assume that he died fairly recently. For all of the provisos, it was a very worthwhile film.

Clearly Lat - I've got blue eyes but prefer fruit gums!

Was there anyone in this quiet corner who managed to listen to the whole of this show? Great technology that allows fast forwarding ...I mean I had to persevere to find out who won that significant award for PACKAGING

Luckily I have today purchased a brass mask from foreign parts at a bargain price which provides suitable cover & has a general calming effect....Mrs GT insists I remove it at meal times. <sigh>

Dunno about that Global - I never got as far as Shelby - I came in halfway through the session, which I found uninspiring and lasted about three more tracks before deciding the crossword was a more appealing choice.

i too fell asleep .... but before slumber i caught an ethiopian fave, getachew mekuria & the Ex .... 5 having also seen mulatu astakte a couple of thursdays ago, where are the awards for these ethiopian jazz stalwarts? astakte (& his large band) bought the house down, and got a well deserved extended standing ovation so impressed, i went and got his autograph, he wrote 'love & peace' on my ticket for his show! i hope that sentiment comes true, which it probably wont... but it's still hopeful, pleasing that someone still expresses those words! mulatu wore a top shirt too, and does some delightfully unself conscious and barely audible 'washing up style' singing while playing! though tbh i was disappointed that the rest of his band weren't listed anywhere on the venue bumpf, though i spotted tom, from 'the sons of kemet' on drums..... but a superb mystery line up all round! the trumpeter looked straight out of 1940s harlem, was also great to watch, as a part of the astakte front line!

Clearly the stand out track of the show.
I'm envious - Mulatu is on my 'wanna see' list.
