That R Crumb heroes of blues, country and jazz calendar is still around

The cobwebs are gathering but still time to celebrate, courtesy of the great Robert Crumb, the birthday of Peetie Wheatstraw born this day 108 years back in Tennessee.

St. Louis Blues musician Peetie Wheatstraw, a man way ahead of his time.

I have unfortunately to recount that Mr Wheatstraw passed on same day in 1941 - car crash in St Louis - you can't be too careful on your birthday, don't you think?

John you have a most excellent calendar. The 2011 one that came with Songlines has key dates in the world of world music. WOMAD and quite a lot of tour dates and other festivals.

Best calendar I ever had Martin - wish I could get another one - those pictures are timeless. The book with its accompanying CD is terrific too.

Is that the Songlines with Andy on the front? Good CDs this time, I thought.

I was doing a spot of tidying around my corner of the bedroom and found last year's calendar - took a sneaky look in - Crumb's great drawing of Papa Charlie Jackson (not known as two sheds) up top for February.

Anyway I noticed that that other great banjo picker Dock Boggs suffered the same fate as Peatie Wheatstraw - born on his birthday this very day in 1898 - died exactly 73 years later. What a fate! What did those
guys get up to on their birthday? Anyway here he is.
My first animated short. Possibly it will be a trilogy with murder ballads if I can find the time. Check out my other vid if you like this one.

They just don't make calendars like they did in the old days!

Nice. A bit of a role model for my father. I like the comment at the top of the YT thread - "I used to think this kind of thing was so old. Funny that the older I get I can see the art in this!"

Paul, GF's situation is a bit like what life in the public sector feels like these days - a pair of everything!
