    Rodrigo y Gabriela: Area 52

These two reviews in the Guardian and the Observer whet my appetitie and prompted me to try this album. I had never come across these two before (my listening habits are on the fringe of the "World" scene) - excellent playing and when mixed with C.U.B.A.'s instrumentals produce a fantastic upbeat sound.

I'm sure all the regulars on this forum will know these guys and be tutting at my former ignorance!

Old Grumpy. Thank you for this information which was news to me. I always feel a lot depends on venue. Glastonbury has a stage which used to be known as Jazz World and is now something else. It can often be one of the quieter places along with the acoustic tent - two of my more regular haunts there - but audiences are also large for the bigger acts during the day.

I have seen some storming performances on JW - Solomon Burke and Jimmy Cliff spring to mind and there are many others. Sometimes there are disappointments. Acts can suffer by being near the top of the bill when millions have gone off to see Muse and Orbital, not that this is always so. But so it was sadly with Fat Freddy’s Drop and also Rodrigo y Gabriela.

There was no doubt about their remarkable virtuosity but the stage was half lit and it wasn’t quite as I expected in terms of atmosphere. This is not to say that at Womad or perhaps the Barbican they wouldn’t have been terrific. I must say that this latest work of theirs looks really excellent on paper. I would like to hear it and to see them again. Lat.

Thanks for the post. I didn't know they had a new one out, and I will certainly check it out...
