Blimey lat, who'd be a DJ having to plough through all this stuff that gets put out.
DJ Ritu had fifty odd albums turn up at her door last week, she said.
    Scary stuff

From the above I'd put anything I'd heard of to the bottom of the pile and probably take a lucky dip starter
    with Irish recordings.

      Hi Paul,

I'm wading slightly. Guessing that you might have all of the Mercedes Sosa. Presumably the release is timed as a tribute following her death this year. Labordeta appears to be a giant of music in his land. You will know more. The Navaira clip is fun, if hardly essential, and there is a "Garth Brooks" label. "Lucky" guy!

Kayah is a bit poppy. Not sure quite what "Bar at Buena Vista" is. I know Ojos de Brujo quite well. They are OK enough. Hello Seahorse - Mexican indie - is really good value visually. I like it a lot on its own terms. Rhythmatic Orchestra - a big yes. Regulo Caro - Gerardo Ortiz, Noel Torres too - bit of a Manu Chao spirit? - will definitely explore.

I get the impression though that there is some widespread hesitation about Vusi Mahlasela (ditto Ismael Lo actually) and I'm not sure why. I like them both.

You'd need to get a new mortgage to afford the Encyclopedia of African American Music. It's in the Greenwood series and looks excellent. And, yes, that batch of 17 Jan releases is fascinating - I particularly like the idea of "Paddy in the Smoke" in a London pub.

Most of the others on the list speak for themselves. Lat.
