Still catching Max from last week and I realised I'd been enjoying that Peter Dawson Geordie folky choir all week - loved 'The Ghost of a Tree' from Thursday's show; and good to hear Tuareg guitar maestro Bombino who I thought sounded slightly like a Saharan Marc Bolan.(from his earlier years, I should add).

Max on tonight - but those darned people who write the trailer have lapsed into casual use of the word 'eclectic' again....and I'm not so convinced about the 'iconoclast' badge either!

As I recall Mr Sherratt, late and lamented of this parish, was no huge fan of Lonnie Liston Smith, so will no doubt be wincing in anticipation somewhere....as I recall Lonnie Liston Smith was a bit of a one-man band

Loved the Ornette Coleman piece last night, but a couple of other tracks that Max spun really had me on edge - made me feel distinctly uneasy. I think one was 'Corkscrew' - I've normally had a very pleasant relationship with them in the past, but perhaps it was written from the perspective of the cork. The other which I also found edgy was Test Drive - understandably, perhaps, it made me feel like I was getting a going over from an agitated J Clarkson.

I have a subjective impression that Max is playing more music with tracks end-to-end, and cutting out a lot of chat. Result is an intellectual version of Chill Music station - but perhaps it's my imagination!

Sometimes I think OP just hacks into my playlists - 2 fav tracks last night - Inglan is a Bitch & the Natacha Atlas classic Riverman version...not much humour though. but then again there's not always much to laugh at is there....

Can't decide what I like best, Global...the Restawile upholsterers, the cut price cigs or the mini-market in the days before T was the devil incarnate. Loved those tunes too - Riverman is so beautiful. Last night I loved Weeping Mary by a man called Sam, though not the usual one. Haven't heard the session with Alasdair Roberts and co-conspirators yet.

Hmm, yes thanks JC; I thought we had covered that off in the heady days when Radio 3 played more than a couple of hourse dedicated world music a week...

In shamanistic society apparently synchronistic happenings indicate you are on the right track....although there needs to be a bit of time travel too on this one. We were well ahead of our time.

'Hopeless' handover from Ian tonight - I do enjoy the live LJ and I was pleasantly surprised that it was Max at the other end of it - Ian should stick around a bit longer sometimes. Max played a bit more of those exhuberant South Sudanese, though minus the xy this time, and that Cigdem Aslan too following her rather fine session with Oilrig on Friday...I do like a Max show!

Just in time, Max is back & with a fine mix incl. such faves as L'Ethiopiques (Bahru Kegne), The Voice Squad (tour - when? ever?), Sufjan Stephens (highly productive), & not forgetting Juana Molina.

Still, mustn't lose my head...
