If ever one item justified youtube's existence for me, well, this is it.
    You may well be right.

Mind you, the flying dog comes a close second. If only it had a decent soundtrack...

I see that Max is playing Kate Rusby doing a bit Christmas music tonight - she was singing live on Mayo a couple of evenings ago and very fine it was too - careful you don't let it run too far or you could hit seriously dodgy territory.
Drivetime offers the best in seasonal music courtesy of folk phenomenon Kate Rusby.

That Etta James and Dr John is some performance. Would the Flying Dog have won on the clapometer though? It is a close run thing. Remember viewers, that was just for fun and it is always the votes of you lovely people at home which count.

I'm now having another logistics problem. How do I look at all the interesting stuff on here, particularly the hour long snippets, listen to Radio 3, the Spotify lists and my own cds, and fit in a full musical resume of the year that was 2010? If it goes on like this, I'll have to give up the day job forever, however much they beg me to return. I expect the letters to be flooding in from them any century now.

When I was reading the Prisoner of Azkaban to the weans back in the days when Santa was king, I fancied one of the things that Hermione Granger had, a time turner - she turned it and could re-experience the previous hour but in a different place - seemed like a fine idea - you could probably use one right now Lat - she only used it so she could go to extra classes - swot!

Yes. Wasn't her autobiography "How to Grow Old Disgracefully"? Oh no, that was Hermione Gingold wasn't it! :cool2:

Funny old thing but I wouldn't be where I am today if it hadn't have been for Hermione.

Yes, I know, I've seen your Letter to Hermione. From memory, it was when I was at a free festival, unwashed and somewhat slightly dazed.

Well interestingly, Paul, you share something with your nemesis RH. I heard him on Woman's Hour this morning say that Hermione gave him a piece of information right at the start of his career which was enormously influential and important on his future path.

                        Duff session or what?

That there Max's show on 23/12 - the session from Ty, Hannah Peel and Jason Yarde was a combined waste of their mutual talents in my opinion.

And, whilst in sweeping generalisation mood/mode, those LJ sessions rarely seem to work, I liked the idea of the Tunng/Tinariwen one but the reality was disappointing - I'm not sure how or why these sessions come about, but I can think of better ways they could spend that budget ...capturing some live performances out in the field for example.

Well I was entertained by that session, which I admit I had the benefit of listening to while driving through
magical moonlit snow-covered landscapes ( Somerset - Devon during the session itself ) One disadvantage of getting away from it
all during the holiday period was having no access to Listen A Gin. I'll have to just go and gaze at the playlist instead.

Yes indeed - thoroughly uncalled for, I thought - don't they know that there are some previous punks out there in listening land?

Some grand tunes in that last week - I've copied the final Wednesday one ( I think ! ) for further perusal.

Now I don't know if any of you have noticed but there is a new bargain 3cd compilation out on the Nascente entitled 'Americana' and this delight has been ( lovingly ) compiled by Mr Max.

                                It's very, very good imo.

I daresay MAK, Lopa and Fiona will get their teeth in to it sooner or later.

                                Includes a tune from
