Hope there is still time to fit in another music legend who sadly died on Friday.
My friend Mycroft tells me:
"Ralph Coates was a member of the initial squad for the 1970 World Cup but was not selected for the final squad which travelled to Mexico. This meant that while he was unable to contribute on the pitch, he played a big part in this memorable no.1" -
No comment Lat - well except that I remember Ralphy having a better comb over than Bobby Charlton and Arthur Scargill combined ( that must have been a bit later)..... mind you he didn't have as good a one as this guy's.
And it's Tuesday, I'd forgotten. Better remember to have a mid evening nap followed by a coffee ... Hope the man's got some warm stuff lined
up for Thursday as I'm planning to be travelling.
Yes, John, I enjoyed that too. There was also one on a golf course. What is it about that sport that makes it so incompatible with good taste in music?
>>>cultural thieves I call them...stealing good music to line their pockets.
Ha! But it's the only way that countless millions get to hear something off the normal track.
So I forgive them
Now I had the nap but neglected the caffeine boost so disappeared in to another word somewhere near
the end of that startling Roscoe Holcomb. Still, an early a.m. coffee, some more eternal book keeping and the Listen
And Gain on track in spite of the overnight snow, I can right now relive the glories of late night radio 3.
That curator's eggnogg is decidedly tasty.
(A segue from Yat-Kha in to anything might well be a simple thing but with that Etta James tune it was executed with the panache
of Denis Law)
I'll see if that sweaty Etta & Dr John cover of the same song is on the tube and report back.
Thanks for the midwinter gift Paul - spine tingling. Didn't catch much LJ last eve - I was watching the Julian Temple film on Imagine about Ray Davies - every time I see something about Davies I am so amazed at how many wonderful songs he has produced and how self-affacing he is. Really enjoyed the film.
