I found Annea Lockwood a bit self indulgent, pleasant enough burblings and murmurings though, overall the combination and contrast of the different sounds Max played was enough to keep me listening, some real crackers in there.

They love a theme don't they those r3 people?
I'm reliably told by a younger person that memes are where it's at ...so, hey Radio 3.

I like a spot of gurgling self-indulgence, Global; it's what makes R3 what it is, he gurgled. By the way, I heard on a telly programme that the word meme was originally coined by Richard Dawkins. More gurgling tonight again on LJ tonight as Maxy continues the River theme.

And, with changes to the schedule now imminent, r3 have announced they are dispensing with the services of Max Reinhardt and Nick Luscombe.

As you know, the full announcement is here:

        Relevant section here:
Late Junction begins its prime two hour Friday night slot this autumn, fronted by Verity Sharp. Jennifer Lucy Allan will also regularly present editions of the show, completing the presenting line-up.
Very sad news - Max has been a stalwart for over a decade, an integral part of a team that experimented with new ideas within the boundaries of the programme. Many of these ideas worked (for example the change from pre-recorded to live reinvigorated the programme)...and some didn't but he was unfailingly enthusiastic, polite and knowledgeable he will be missed.
I very much hope he resurfaces elsewhere.

Still at least Music Planet will be on a Saturday afternoon

He joins the pantheon of excellent broadcasters whom we could do with not being without. Very sad to see him go. Enthusiastic, polite and knowledgeable is well put Global.

I’ve been in touch with him to thank him - he says he will be continuing but not sure where yet.
The BBC have previous form with regard to dropping the wrong people at the wrong time.

Shame Max has to be the latest example.

Enjoyed the last couple of nights on LJ as we say farewell to Max. He and Nick were a fine combination for the ping pong on the radio - made me wonder why they hadn't done it before, they seemed to get on so well - 6 music should pick them up. True to form, Max had no rancour about moving on, but expressed his thanks for the chance to play his music on LJ over the years - as you said, GT, enthusiastic, polite and knowledgeable to the end - he'll be missed.

Nicely put JC - they did bounce off each other rather well, and gave credit to the sorely missed Charlie Gillett for the pingy-pongy idea. Wonder where they'll pop up next....
