    Here she is playing 'You can talk about me'
    Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

    If I was doing this properly I'd try and find a piece of hers that showed the similarities with her grandfather - but I've just chosen a favourite. Just wonderful.
    (think she nicked my hat but she's welcome to it)

    One track is never enough...here she is again with 'Black Cat Bones'

    JC - we already knew about Sacred Harp Singing - but I can't remember who played it first on LJ, can you? Always good to hear though

      Hadn't made the connection, G. First I heard of her was via a Mr Sherratt formerly of this quiet corner. This is a favourite of mine, late in her life with Richard Johnston - 'Chicken and Gravy'

      By the way, I think she did nick your hat, GT, and she certainly seems to have done a good line in hats.

        Sadly Max's show on 'library' music with Jonny Trunk and Lucy Woodward was, in my humble opinion, a right old stinker and not worth investing listening time in.
        17000 records, weighing 3.5 tons, of mostly unlistenable music - purely based on what I heard anyway
        <shudders and switches off>

          Oh, was that what was going on last night, GT? I couldn't work it out, and did as you did.

            Max played what I think is one of the best and angriest protest songs of recent times on his show last night. Janelle Monae and Wondaland - 'Hell you Talmbout'.

              Remember the Alan Lomax Archive (ALA) programme a while back? I just wanted to post this:

              (Mr Chatmon deserves his own show of course.)
              as you can see there is a specific YouTube channel dedicated to the Alan Lomax Archive - hours and hours of stuff. Well worth subscribing to the channel.

              This next link has been posted before, but here's a reminder just in case you wonder where the 17,400 digital audio files actually are

              Incidentally, I'd forgotten about the connection between the ALA and Sacred Harp singing - I wondered if anyone else could remember who it was that introduced us on this forum to Sacred Harp singing, via LJ or Wo3?
              I suspect AK, certainly before Max's time, and certainly not via the ALA - it's continued to interest me ever since, here's a couple of examples:

                Thanks for all that, GT. Sam Chatmon was a total joy...listened to something else by him afterwards too. Great voice. Copernicus - spinetingling.

                I think this was the first bit of Sacred Harp I heard, Global. Rocky Road from Harry Smith's Anthology.

                  Great start to Max' LJ last night. I think he said that Ekuka Morris Sirikiti was Ugandan and the recordings were about 20 years old though this sounds like it has come down to us through the mists from a time long, long ago - pretty mesmeric, I thought. This is Pwan En Obalo Gum Waa .

                    On Max tonight the mixtape had a strangely beautiful wee track at the end that seemed to be from Orkney. When I went looking for 'Portrait of Ga' I found this beautiful wee film from the National Library of Scotland.

                          Last night's LJ had Max very excited about the mixtape from artist, Brendan Drew, an appropriate name for an artist I thought. I don't know who Brendan is but his Mixtape certainly drew my attention - pretty darn good, I would say. In fact, the kind of thing that sets LJ apart from so much else on the Radio.
                          Presenter Max Reinhardt invites you to enter the mind of artist Benedict Drew.

                            Max made a surprise appearance on 'Cerys on 6' this morning which was hosted by Tom Robinson and very fine it was indeed. They had a wee chitchat for half an hour after the 10.30am news and Max brought in a few tunes and gave LJ a wee mention. It was nice hearing him in the morning, I thought.

                            Particularly enjoyed this wee bit of Japanese Cumbia - who'd 've thought it?

                              Hopefully Max passed his audition for r6... anyway on Weds and Thurs he featured an alternative quartet assembled for this programme.
                              Cheng Yu - guqin, a seven-stringed zither, and the pipa;
                              Sam Underwood -electroacoustic string contraption designed especially for this session;
                              Elliot Galvan - prepared piano
                              And, from The Gloaming:
                              Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh - hardanger d’amore;

                                Like many of his colleagues on 3, Max was messing about on the river last night and a very enjoyable show it was. Among numerous highlights I have to say was composer Annea Lockwood's recordings of a mountain river. As Max said, it was recording of high quality and I was glad I took his advice and put the headphones on.
