Mrs JC doesn't usually make many comments other than the occasional, 'What is THAT you're listening to', but she was fair taken with Masayoshi Fujita's Waterfall pieces on last night Max...that's this year's birthday present sorted! I loved hearing the Davy Graham and the Bill Evans; and more Bella Hardy....very fine!

that LayLam album from Carthy/Hardy/Farrell/Young is generally a delight. A new version of Walking After Midnight - an evocative pleasure.

Now why did I know Max was going to ace it on a Thursday night? Even that feller babbling on for a bit about Ipanema proved to be a good warm up for the superb Chavela Vargas.

Overall, the show was like Fablon (anyone remember Fablon?).

An instantly decorative pick-me-up... or perhaps, even THE:

Hard to argue with that Global. Since it first came out and Tommy Stevenson, our resident Stones' afficiando used to stick it on at every opportunity making us pals listen, 'Beggars Banquet' has been, and remains, one of my favourite records, and 'Prodigal Son' one of my favourite Stones songs. Feel a bit ashamed to say that I'd never heard of Rev Robert Wilkins, and had never heard him sing his song 'Prodigal Son' from Newport - utterly mesmerising. I'll be going back to that a few times.
I was surprised to find Max not a Lenny fan but always glad to hear 'Famous Blue Raincoat'.

That Albert Ayler version of 'Summertime' from a couple of night's back might well be the best version of the tune I've ever heard - quality from Max!

Yes, it was that Paul Sherratt, ex of these boards, who got the mention on last night's LJ.

Plumping for O V Wright in preference to Bobby Blue Bland as the Greatest Blue & Soul singer of the 20th Century.
Both lads misguided, but that's allright..

Who would you have plumped for?

Oh, and yes, it was my twitter account that got a mention in the Kevin Ayers bit.

Careful Max - don't turn it into a request show!

Paul's always been a big fan of OV. Snooks is a right good call and you might well have agreement from the lovely Cerys there, G. I don't know whether he counts, and Max was talkin' males here wasn't he, but for quality of voice I keep going back to Washington.
Washington Phillips was a gospel performer in the 1920s and one of the founding fathers of American gospel music. Although his entire recorded catalog consis...

That Max Reinhardt on tonight - if I understand his tweet correctly he's celebrating the history of vinyl on Thursdays episode amongst the usual mix of Lonnie Donegan, Mohammed Rafi, Dieuf Dieuf de Theis.

Remember that new music is good for your brain, espesh yr nucleus accumbens . Confirmation here:

MRI scans reveal that listening to new music is rewarding for the brain.

Nah, I was disappointed with that program - never mentioned the Prisonaires once & those guys & the governor of the prison at the time, were the iconoclasts behind all the subsequent events in my humble biased opinions.
                      Check them out

                      a remarkable story...

I mean it's a fine tune indeed, G, but they had to get an escort to Sun in Memphis with all the additional security and cost implications, whereas them guys in Huntsville had recording studios put in the nick to record them.

You absolutely should - I heard the first half and it was epic Max.
Family Atlantica, Mukunguni, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Dungeness Nuclear Power Station followed by Schumann, Mop Mop featuring Anthony Joseph and Alexis among others - especially loved Mop Mop - I'll catch the rest when i-player streams back in to my side of the pooliverse.

That Conet Project stuff is interesting - what's going on there - I wondered if Max was trying to tell me something via an encrypted message. Doubt it, I'm encrypted enough already.

Tell you what I loved from last Tuesday was that 'Hommage a Cheikhou Oumar Foutiyou' by Senegal's Dieuf-Dieul de Thies - beautiful 70s groove for a Monday morning in a quiet office.
That Conet sounded more like the usual stuff that happens here...but I like it.
