Lat said recently that he'd give Mary Ann a Late Junction slot - I was working at home tonight accompanied by her RSCOT 'global gathering' this evening - she had a 'white' theme and I found myself agreeing with him - very fine it was - and she played a spot of Vanuatu too.

I only mention this because for all that the whole evening was worth the listening for the Virginia Rodriguez/ Caetano Veloso track which Max played - glorious!

Need to give both a listen, thanks JC, MAK clearly influenced by those Spotify-theme chaps (who remembers 'green', 'blue', 'red' and 'puce'. We never did do white - may be a thought, nor 'puce' - I was thinking of certain other posters high blood pressure) - but upcoming Max tonight we have the inevitable Ligeti & Nitin Sawhney.

Been hanging out on R3OK - worth a look now and again, where JoePaul got a much better quality of response over there...a bit like camping though (it's intense)

and don't forget Mark Coles in The Shed

also worth keeping up with in a matey sort of way..

She did black a week or so ago Global and I thought exactly that same thing - by the way, the Kasai Allstars track near the end was a belter.

Re Max - as you predicted he played 'The Secret' and said what I thought when you posted it, 'Where does Ali stop and Vieux begin' - good track. I was glad to get Bjork over at the beginning and the playlist isn't up but there was a really beautiful Gaelic song by Fiona MacKenzie (I think) - but that Virginia Rodrigues - she is such a wonderful singer. But with the reduction in time allocation and an extra half hour of classical music at the end of LJ, I personally think it's time for a reduction of the classical element within the programme. What I think I'm saying is 'Less classical Max! Please!'

The playlist still isn't up, but I liked the Mickey Katz track too as well as the above. Not to mention Alasdair Roberts (is that on Spotify...?) and the AfroBeat film track.

Max (new picture, old hat) is good at texturing the light and dark, often using 'classical' (sometimes that just means old...). In fact that tends to be a feature of the three of them.

And it has to be said that LJ's brief is intentionally wide, so I don't think you're going to get your wish anytime soon.
          Even though I agree.
(and they could stop the studio sessions for me too)

I agree wholeheartedly with your picks and I'd love to hear more of the tale of the house in Perthshire (maybe Friday - you are still keeping an eye on my diary G?) I hadn't heard Mickey Katz - quite amusing really. I know you're right about the C word G, but I just sometimes sink when he tells me we're heading for an Introit or a Chopin Nocturne - I often end up making a head for bedspreadinstead!

Here's that Kasai allstars track that Mary Ann played last night and she's right it is a great record title - I see they're also on the tradi mods v rockers record Global. ( so observant me!)

That Crystal Warren track was a stunning start to last night's programme. She's now the 3rd performer I've heard set one of William Blake's poems to music. ( or several in John Wardle's case)
Do posters want to contribute any? I'm sure there are lots

Now that would be one heck of a playlist...

(P.S. MR is considering the Darondo challenge. Should we hold our breath?)

                    - don't forget there is a volume 1 as well.

Btw it's good to see in the latest fascinating article on the media by the media and for the media, a fair few comments from readers who appreciate
                        The Late Night Line Up.

wel paul i certainly appreciated the last 40 mins of MR tonight, that peters Jegede Fentazi trio was exceptionally appealing and the other stuff, the usual i suppose was cool enough .. would any one know if that threesome had recorded out or were going on tour?
