Sad news although Whitby is a favourite spot. Just don't let it clash with their goth festivals. Tentatively, ie I'm not sure if I have thought this through, I would like to see winter festivals having 33% or more events outdoors. That includes Celtic Connections.

They also have a great folk festival in Whitby in the summer, and the Goth 'festival' (I'm not entirely sure Goths *do* festive - more likely Gloomival) is visually charming. They're so black and white.

Inside or outside, I'm just disappointed that the number of festivals seems to be on the decline. But not surprised

Here's one of the problems with outdoor festivals though...

One of the Whitby festival goths worked to me. Pleasant chap, very bright and strangely quiet. I moved on quickly. Couldn't cope with being required to mark him down for having too much integrity.

          well, here's some good news

Maybe we should just start a Bad News thread....
The MusicPort Festival is back on - different dates (5-7 Oct), different location (Whitby - actually the same old place), different company, same organisers

Here are some of the acts...
Dub Colossus Dub Band, Edward II , Reem Kelani, Circle Of Sound, Sona Jobarteh Band, African Roots Fusion Band, Former Members Of Country Joe & The Fish, The Hut People, Calaita, Modeste, Marry Waterson & Oliver Knight, The Moulettes, Julie Murphy,The Lani Singers, Jaipur Kawa Brass Band, O'Hooley & Tidow, Changing Horses, Sura Susso, Two Man Ting, Molly Jones & Lee Southall, Lightgarden, 3 Foot Ninja, Celtarabia, Flying Chilli Beats, Red Hippo, Rafiki Jazz, Maia, Mark Boden Trio, Whitby Community Choir, Darkening Green, Maggie Boyle & Paul Downes...

some of these are pale shadows of former selves, or masquerading under an old name, some are regulars at this event, some are new and some are definitely worth seeing.

I'm away somewhere else - anyone planning to go? Joe? What do you know?
