BBC Radio 4 Extra kicked off a week celebrating what would have been the irreplaceable Ivor Cutler's centenary with an 'Archive on 4' programme that celebrated his 90th. More programmes to follow on the station on Wednesday evening.

Thanks for these notices. I'm long-time admirer of the unique Ivor Cutler. One of the many things I admire about him is that he was a member of the Noise Abatement society; it was good to know I wasn't alone in finding our world noisier by the year.Comment

In 1975 I was sharing a flat with a chap who had the Virgin 2LP sampler V (https://www.discogs.com/release/1593038-Various-V), a diverse and diverting selection of tracks. We didn't have so many albums and played it often. It provided me with my first contact with Ivor's idiosyncratic Go And Sit Upon The Grass.
By way of a tangent, I also remember us singing along with another track, Mike Oldfield's whimsical Don Alfonso (some call me Pedro), which featured composer, David Bedford, on lead vocals and accordion. YouTubeComment
