1972 - Red Wine and Promises posted on YT by my friend, Tony Cope, who hung out with the Watersons. The recording of this track, from the album Bright Phoebus, was when Martin and Norma 'got together' after a few years of eyeing each other up and being married to others.
Pearson Park in Hull is the setting. One day I hope this album will be re-released properly.

A long time since I've seen the two of them together, and, of course, the poignancy was always present.
This was an excellent event and the quality was great for those of us not physically there - slight hiccup at the beginning with badly balanced sound but quickly corrected.
Their knowledge is encyclopaedic and their memories elephantine.
Eliza is in v good voice at the moment, and once Martin C gets a head of steam up he is wonderful. I enjoyed the slight inconsequential ramblings and the endless tuning (he has done that for a long while now).
A complicated set which much must have taken hours to set up - that rug doesn't unravel itself you know.

A lovely atmosphere at the venue and they were very enthusiastically received. Good to see the hall about three quarters full, about 250 people, mainly citizens of a certain age but some younger ones. Martin looked a bit frail, probably the oldest person in the house, though not by much, and happy to let his daughter run the show, but he was in good form when his turn came.
I think my favourite item was the Napoleon/Elephant combination.
Eliza came out and chatted to people in the foyer in the interval.
