Handmade in Africa - the Kora

Chanced on this lovely programme about Seydou Kane, kora maker in Dakar, Senegal which was repeated on BBC 4 this morning, part of the 'Handmade in Africa' series. Seydou and the programme makers took us through the craft, history and spirit required in making this beautiful instrument. Thoroughly recommend it if you haven't seen it before...and even if you have.
A Senegalese craftsman creates a west African lute, or kora, from scratch.

Thanks for that. A beautiful and fascinating film. ( I did worry at one stage about his fingers and those cutting instruments). Mention of the djinn spirits reminded me of a work by Franck which I recently came across for the first time - his unusual and atmospheric symphonic poem for piano and orchestra Les Djinns

A lovely film indeed, and the others in the series are also interesting; I mentioned them when they first aired.

Yes, you did and they are, without exception, worth a watch.

        Thanks both.
