Not even going to grace this post with a link - just a devout recommendation that you avoid.

    .
...and you should avoid the Australian version of Crosby Stills Nash and Young that Nitin Sawhney played last week - and a few other things too. Though he did play a glorious bit of Terry Callier and also Oumou, though 'May you Never' is a bit of a R2 standard. Still he's got Bassekou Kouyate on tonight - can't be bad!

      Could not complete!

Wow, Ms T., that was a stinker of a programme on Thurs night.
To be honest I didn't make it past track 3 so it's far to say that I shouldn't really be commenting.

Who on earth wants to listen to the kind of prog rock (track 2) on their radio? I never liked it at the time, and though they've added orchestration, it doesn't serve to mask the innate and seemingly infinitely extended awfulness.

My life's too short for this - I switched off, I was up for the Chris Watson track but couldn't complete listening.

The first track was a David Sylvian sound-a-like too - sneaky.

And I really think that generally the FT selections could do with a bit of a refresh (i.e. cut the Pat Metheny, Chris Watson, David Sylvian, nordic countries out for a bit)
There's a whole WORLD of MUSIC out there (not even World Music) that could be played, rather than latest albums from the select group of individuals and nations that are on the list....

drat I've gone into red ink 'Outraged of Forum mode'... Harumph. Blusters offstage tweedily irritated towards a large glass of red.

FT seems to have support in depth from BBC management, judging by her interview last night with Stuart Maconie, head of Radio 6 (???). A kind of Hear and Now version of Private Passions.

Generally, I support FT's choices, because her musical tastes seem similar to my own. But I appreciate in this area of wide-spectrum music, there is much scope for any number of different approaches.

I've heard her talking Scandy on Maconie's Freak zone before, OB - grand to hear the Desmali track and be reminded just how good Kershaw was at tracking these folk down - think I'll be heading for World Routes this Sunday.

By the way, I thought Mark Radcliffe was head of 6 music.

Yes, apologies - Stuart Maconie is just a presenter on R6.

it never struck me before WHY Scott Walker was so much like Status Quo - everything they do sounds the same.

Overall not bad though FT - although (along with JC I suspect) I preferred Shed Man's 100th... infinitely more spritely.

Although she did finish with a favourite classic

I think it's because they also need to work out why they're crawling through the desolate wilderness on their knees...though Scott's version, as yet unrecorded, of 'Down the Dustpipe' is a portrait in desolation.*

It took me two shots to go through and some fine tunes in there, G. Bruford was magnificent I thought - think I'm still in drumming mode following my outing to the Baker Boy last week. And I even loved Ludwig and of course the great Sonny Boy and, well, it's even better when you know Gav is just a tune or two ahead.

Lovely post JC - must be why you and I carry on with this forum. Fun. Laughter. Music. Spriteliness.

Scott doesn't do requests. I heard him interviewed recently where they asked him if he'd do some old Walker Bros classic track.
The horror in his voice led him (and me) straight back to that 'desolate wilderness' that he lives in - down, down, going down....the sun ain't gonna shine any more....dark

Deeper and down, ochone, ochone! ...and that's just 'cos someone called me Scotty.

Of course he could have a go at this old classic, G.

The more I hear Chris Wood's version of 'Jerusalem', which FT opened with last night, the more I love it.

                        FT's LJ on Tues....

that show that is why FT will forever be the Queen of LJ. Showing how it should be done with a near perfect mix of yer actual good stuff from Womad, par example, spine-tingling Huun Huur Tu (as opposed to the "you want to dance? Yeah, clap your hands, shake your legs, let's dance"), some excellent newcomers (Lizzie Nunnery & Vidar Norheim), a moody lachrymae, and aural excellence from Vieux Farka Touré, FZ & Mr Glass.

Long may she reign over us.

(havent caught up on Weds yet)

The Vieux Farka Toure piece was a total treat, G; and Huun Huur Tu a stop-ye-in-your-tracks-er! Could have done without the Van Der Graaf Generator which had my hair standing on end with memories of awaiting Tony Blackburn - there really was a time when I waited for Tone to arrive on the air - woof!woof! (poor impersonation of Arnold).
Oh and I forgot the rather excellent Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino - top notch in my book.

That Huun-Huur-Tu are so stunning - the track from Womad that Fiona played on Thursday's Late Junction, Sariglaar, was particularly fine.

                              Thought we wouldn't notice huh?

Here's the description for Late Junction from their very own home page

A varied mix of world music, ranging from the ancient to the contemporary
Trouble is, the reality, that is the music actually played. is somewhat (generally pleasingly) different....still, let's not let the facts get in the way eh?

And, at some point, perhaps the playlist for Wednesday's show may actually appear....

You were right about that Juana Molina, Global - FT played her as the opening track to LJ last eve and mighty good it was too - actually a lot of fine things - really enjoyed the Necks now that I recall. If she keeps it up there could be a playlist at the end of the week.
Fiona Talkington presents music from The Necks, Makarski and Jarrett, and Juana Molina.
