1/3 The Revolutionary Sounds of Brazil
BBC Radio 6 Music DJ Huey Morgan dives into the unique sounds of three countries - Puerto Rico, Brazil and Cuba - on a quest to understand Latin music's enduring appeal. He begins in Brazil, where he joins Mangueira Samba School as they prepare for the Rio carnival. Then, in Salvador with Carlinhos Brown, a percussionist and native of the city, he experiences the rhythms of an Afro bloc, an enormous drum ensemble beating out samba rhythms.
This is definitely from Brazil nuts. Anyone who's been on many a recent street demo for good causes, will know just how loud your average Afro bloc can be truly a match for massed vuvuzelas!
