    Sat 6 July Radio 4: 3.30pm - Estate Music

If you're not doing something genuinely engrossing this afternoon, like watching balls being knocked both ways across a net to the accompaniment of shouting people who've paid a lot to get excited about something and eat strawberry cream teas, this repeat programme might be of interest:

Journalist Kieran Yates explores British culture's debt to the diversity of music which immigrants have brought to council estates. She also looks at how the postwar dream of aspirational community living became soured and asks if media coverage of grime and drill artists has helped fuel a national misperception of the council estate today.

And you won't miss Jazz Record Requests either!

Oh, no - not more TV coverage of the Tory leadership contest?!

(Good call on the Kieran Yates programme, though )

No, that's balls being kicked, and in all directions!!

Excellent programme, though possibly more appreciable from the London perspective. A strong point was made by contributers brought up on estates from around the metropolis about gentrification eradicating environments that have contributed so richly to urban musical culture, in all its aspects, hinting at an open question mark hanging over the future.
