Late Junction with Jennifer Lucy Allan

After last nights conversation with Laurie Anderson (see a Quick Glance Around the Schedules thread for [not such a quick glance] comments), JLA tries to curry favour with North of the Border listener(s) by hosting a bagpipe special, plus a track from the LJ festival.

There was something missing. Something important...

And, for reasons of contrast, plus to address any possible sin of omission, here's another Martyn Bennett track:
Taken from the classic album GRIT. Blackbird features in the Danny Macaskill film The Ridge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQ_IQS3VKjAGRIT is also now avai...

My initial reaction was "What do you think of it so far? R*****!"

Not a patch on Verity. But on the basis of your comments, I will give it another listen.

Martyn's Mother, Margaret, is a national treasure up here 8thob, at least as far as I am concerned...wonderful woman - we had her at our Hamish Henderson festival back in November, and what a delight she was with her singing and her stories of collecting songs and stories from across Scotland and beyond.

By the way, if you haven't seen it, here's a great wee half hour programme from Artworks Scotland about the making of 'Grit'.

I take back my criticism of Jennifer Lucy Allen. The bag pipes programme was actually very good indeed. She was not afraid to play lengthy tracks, and there were some big names in there, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, Don Cherry and Sun Ra (on bag pipes!).

Hear and Now , Jennifer is on your tail!
