“EARLY MUSIC FROM THE FRENCH EMPIRE”. Special Guests Robert Crumb & Guillaume Veillet play 78 rpm records from their record collections from the South of France on John Heneghan’s Old Time Radio Show.

Not listened to all of it yet, wading through the sometimes too informal dialogue can be a bit tedious...but the first track Chant De Momea Paoa led me off to do some research (which is what the young people say when they mean using a Search Engine). There are actually no artists called Sylvain et Darnois, turns out these are the name of the collectors. Ho hum, it was a rousing sound to start the day.

The title of the second track should be
Hiriata et Toti avec Les Troubadours Des Iles

The presenters are really put out by the first track (MASO MALUNGI – GALABUZI AND PARTY) - clearly never heard of Dr Lucy. Anyway, I can't find it on YouTube so you'll just have to listen if you're vaguely interested - once again plenty of rambling chat amongst the tracks.

Some performers not heard before - including the Mississippi Mud Mashers, the Cedar Creek Sheik and the 2 Charlies.

A quick plug for a great garden plant which (bumble) bees love - Sicilian Honey Garlic. Easy to grow, looks marvellous and bees queue up for a taste.. ( I’m sure there’s a thread somewhere for plants but wanted to keep the buzz going here)

Part 2 of another Robert Crumb show, recorded at his house in the South of France. Others to catch up with (Part 1 for example) can be found on the right hand side of the front page.

This two-parter from our obsessive collectors is execellent, the balance between talk and music just right, the quality of the music is generally good, old 78s have a built in character of their own, as usual, don't expect perfect sound.
Part 2 hops around Canada, Scotland, Ireland, Switzerland, the Ukraine and Africa. My favourites were Lighthouse Keeper’s Blues – Isacca & His Banjoliers and Mnca – Dube Red Birds.
