The Doc Rowe Collection and Archive contains a lifetime's collection of material relating to British folklore, song, dance and cultural traditions, with particular emphasis on seasonal calendar customs.
About time someone in the BBC did a series on him.

The link is still there for the programme on the BBC 'Archive Hour' pages, Global. Wonder if it ever gets an outing on 4xtra?
Pleased to see that Verity's back for a second week at the controls though we're getting Sam Lee playing with nightingales tonight; and we're getting more wails and nightingales on Friday too (with Lopa (again!). Verity's celebrating 100years of Moondog on Thursday...wonder when that film is ever coming out.
this astonishing sequence was filmed by wild life cameraman and travel journalist Dylan Winter who is currently sailing around the UK in an 18 foot boat. ...
By the way, the Nightingales did a good job of keeping the humans in check last night I should add.
To be honest, I was slightly apprehensive of the Joe Boyd and Verity Late Junction edition, he did a couple of shows with Dr LD a few years back which didn't work too well, maybe in retrospect too constrained in content matter, whereas this was engrossing - far too short.
Joe is hardly over exposed given his contribution to and influence on music.
I've not listened to his record collection podcasts to date, but now intend to seek them out (there is a thread on here, of course).

JB's always good value, Global, in my opinion. The Nico track was great and terrific to hear the Comedian Harmonists anywhere, never mind LJ. They turned up on this rather excellent episode of Joe's A-Z Podcast - episode H for 'Hallo, was machst du heut' Daisy?' funnily enough. Highly recommended!

Reason: Just for emphasis!

I've dived straight into the podcasts at JJ, seemed reasonable. Will continue on the right thread, or else the host will be irritated.
After assisting Eliza Carthy to curate her fantasy festival earlier in the week in Robin Hood Bay, Verity returned to LJ duties with a visit to the Athens of the North for a non-fantasy festival. What a wonderful opening tune as trio Yorkston/Thorne/Khan played live in the studio 'Blues jumped the Goose'. Worth the price of admission as far as I'm concerned.

Do you often irritate yourself, Global?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
Verity latest shows focus on invented instruments. I'd really like to listen to a show where only non-invented instruments were played. Or would that be unaccompanied vocals? Or silence? Or the sound of 2 stones banged against each other?

When I were a nipper, I liked the clanking/ clinking sound of a steel marble descending on a glass marble from a great height when the 'High knucks above the elbow' rule had been invoked. Let's have that on LJ, I say.
