A breathy Cormier. But how would correspondents describe distant (maybe) relative, Nolan's vocal style ?
And would he segue seamlessly with that old late-night Tallis man regular ?

I heard a live LJ from Liverpool Cathedral a few years ago, following straight on from a Monteverdi Vespers. Verity was standing or walking all the time she was broadcasting. Like a singer. I liked it. Also I remember a very quiet Sufi (?) group sitting performing under the enormous tower, followed by the organist playing very loud!

Beresford, thanks for that grand image. ( I enjoyed looking at the Cathedral through the tinted windows on The Tate's 4th floor, last Wednesday ... )

Loved the Jonathan Harvey piece - bells, electronics, sound warping etc, huge fun with boys voices solo and together having a LOT of fun. Brilliant and innovative.

A chance to sample the newly released complete Cage Song Books - Loré Lixenberg and Gregory Rose vocals), Robert Worby (electronics) - tonight. There is also a performance involving ex-Scratch Orchestra members on Saturday:

Anyone else spot Verity's tribute to MAK last night?

If not, you'll have to find it about 50 mins in...

Haven't got there yet G but as you said elsewhere, hard not to nip out and grab a copy of those Living Room sessions.

i enjoyed that too, especially the bells crashing in, that made the first few bars and intro to the piece as a whole. currently, not many experimentalists seem to choose to experiment with vocal/singing ....so it made a pleasant change to hear jonathan harvey do so.

though i also liked richard skelton's experiments with what turned out to be sounds recorded in ireland, especially once i allowed my mind drift and vividly saw a hovering bird of prey in my imagination.... and hadn't, at that point, looked at the schedule notes. yet to someone else it might just have sounded like a long, linear, machine made noise...the type you might turn off as 'interference' - if possible.

Great thing about Verity is that her playlist is a true Kaleidoscope of items, but woven into a digestible whole.

The careful planning of the sound spectrum is very fine by that team, and she is no-nonsense, no gush, no me-me-me like 90% of the other R3 presenters, perfect late night voice, maximum music, minimum fuss round it. She is for me right up there among the very, very best of R3.

Funny how Fish Cooking sounds different in different parts of the world, innit? I was convinced there was a moggy around waiting to sample the end product. Neat!
