He's your mate, he is, he's your mate.

I thought you might like to know I've spotted your hero on the Guardian today.

As an unbiased commentator on this matter, I have to say he doesn't look entirely dried out. A bit like a Paul Whitehouse character in the making. Shame really.

Now I have to bow to your artist's eye observation, but remember that the man does live in a sea-front house and takes boat trips in the bay.

Perhaps a career with those fisherman's friends is an option ? ( they won't last long, mind you ! )

I always thought Whitehouse was doing Kershaw anyway - and a brilliant job he did!

That's surely not THE Stranglers, is it? Not how I remember them.

Paul, you've reminded me I've heard he's part of the RNLI (in fact, I probably heard him tell it). He's obviously attracted to tough jobs; listening to CDs during the day, pulling fishermen from the cold sea, DJ'ing on radio 3...

Anyone know how book sales are going? I'm waiting for the remaindered ones to hit our local bookshop..or the pb version. Although it is half price on Amazon - but with 2 good reviews. I like the one that starts

As a teenager growing up in rural America, I often dreamed of places like London and Leeds, of The Clash and sell-out rock 'n' roll gigs.
Ah yes, the romance of Leeds on a cold, dark, November Saturday night rain lashing down as you walked home after missing the last bus home due to Captain Beefheart doing an extra few numbers, adroitly avoiding the the walking dead, the thugs and the bored police looking to stop anyone under the age of 50 .

Aargh - just realised I've entered a time warp and am reliving the 1970's. no more posts from me until I've gone back to the future.

No idea how the sales are going Global but The Guardian's reviewer has caused a mild stir of the pot

There have been what may be extracts in the last two Mail On Sunday editions ( is that the correct title ? ) - the paper of choice for all those who look outwards for constant cultural stimulation.

Rachel Cooke doesn't seem to have come away unscathed from the article Paul, if the comments under the article are anything to go by - I'll have a crack at it on holiday in a couple of weeks time - I am expecting a few laughs in the process. Better get a copy sorted out. Half-price at some internet based outlets, did you say G?

Polarised reactions for sure, with several weighing in from the Kershaw publisher's camp.
As for me, well I don't have a copy or any opinions - just thoughts !
I'll link to the 'very best' review - why best ?

Because it's in The Yorkshire Post !

that's quite a review from Rachel Cooke - and the comments are worth reading too, overwhelmingly supportive of AK.

I'm with Ps in the 'no copy, no opinion' camp...

I'm not even sure, Global, that I'll even leaf through it in Waterstones, as one thing I'm nearly always disappointed
with is how most elements of the print industry reproduce my photos !

A word to the wise about readers' comments on the Guardian. Had the review been favourable, the comments would have been contrary. It seems the Guardian is the preferred choice of people who hate newspapers and journalism.

I thought it was a fairly good article. The Guardian contributor's comment about sub-text is valid.

You can always do what many do in these cases and replace it in the fiction section.

                              Under 'crime'.
