er, perhaps better off wondering why he suddenly appeared on the Graun's website ...product placement baby, product placement.

actually we could look into thread sponsorship I'm sure ff would approve -
just think, nice ads down the sidebars, pop-ups, tracking cookies profiling your web browsing history & making focussed retail suggestions ()

Anyone can appear on the Guardian's website now. And they've recently launched a video ''Comment is Free'' facility. I told you, they hate journalism.

I suppose I might have guessed why he was on. Though it wasn't explicitly promoting a book, I'm often cynical whenever a hitherto absent c'leb is wheeled blinking into the limelight to offer opinion on the state of affairs. But I don't buy books anymore, so I don't find myself in Waterstone's perusing the three for twos (they may even have gone broke, like Habitat, and I wouldn't know - unless it was in the Guardian).

I'm more for the Independent. Have to say that I don't really welcome this book. Potentially, it seems to place him on the rack somewhere between Jordan and Lampard. And I am not sure that it does him any favours to be a celebrity anti-celebrity.

Non-financially, this may have been the time to temper the fire. He could have been emerging as a kind of Tony Adams. Better still, we could have had something from him wholly about music. I have that strange half-autobiography by Peel which didn't make me feel good either. I think I prefer the personalities of music presenters to be heard mainly through their work.

(Incidentally, I truly believe that he would benefit from emotional support on the loss of Peel and Walters because I feel instinctively that there were bereavement issues there which then led to the other difficulties).
