    The Polyphony Project

Been reading about a project collecting, recording and archiving traditional Ukrainian music. According to the Project organiser the Soviets robbed their cultural heritage and put it on stage. Now they are trying to rediscover the Ukrainian folk tradition. Interesting after recently seeing the film 'Cold War' about post-war Poland. Here's an example of their films.

Charlotte Church singing with them too on R4?
Wish she'd left the guys to do what they do so well.

Actually, I was rather touched by her appreciation.

I think it was Georgian polyphony she was involved with on the radio 4 programme, but thank you for the reminder, Draco. I want to catch up on that one. I think Georgian polyphony is very male focussed, whereas it would seem that in other parts of Eastern Europe, eg Ukraine, Bulgaria, the women are very much at the centre of it.
