Polish film 'Cold War' has been getting very good reviews, so I headed along to the local Art House with Mrs C last night. What struck me, and why I am posting this here, was the wonderful soundtrack and in particular the rootsy Polish folk music and dance of the first half hour of the film. The film looks stunning throughout and the sounds are majestic. Go catch it if it turns up in your neighbourhood.
Cold War - A film by Pawel Pawlikowski

Certainly worth seeking out even if not "in your neighbourhood". Our local popcorn emporium was not showing it, so we had a pleasant day trip to Bath to see it at the Little Cinema. Superbly concentrated and economically told, leaving much up to the viewer's imagination in black and white with 4:3 aspect ratio. Especially poignant for us since my wife came out of Eastern Europe in the 70s.

A similar film I'd recommend to those who haven't seen it is Tarkovsky's "Ivan's Childhood" which was released in 1962.
@John Corrigan I haven't seen Cold War yet but thanks for the heads up, I will certainly have my eyes peeled for it.
Funnily enough last week I finally got round to seeing Pawel Pawlikowski's previous film "Ida" which I found absorbing - with a strong cast, outstanding acting by the two female leads, striking black and white cinematography and in what might be the director's calling card an eclectic use of music ranging from the Jupiter Symphony to John Coltrane's Naima.
Below is a review of the soundtrack of Cold War for anyone interested.
Best Wishes,
